What is Carbon Footprint Certification (CFC)?
Preferred by Nature’s Carbon Footprint Certification is a one-stop solution that offers a streamlined and credible option for farmers, forest owners, and managers to measure and communicate their climate impact. This certification covers a product's entire carbon footprint, including emissions and removals, providing a comprehensive view of its environmental impact.
The service also provides direct access to credible and efficient carbon calculation tools for agriculture and forestry, simplifying data collection and ensuring the accuracy of GHG emissions and removal calculations.
The Carbon Footprint Certification is designed to smoothly integrate with your existing sustainability certifications, such as Rainforest Alliance, FSC, and Preferred by Nature Certification. We can check your activity data during regular audits, and our carbon experts will help verify your carbon footprint calculations. The certification can also be obtained as a standalone service.
The approach follows the three-step processes:
Step 1: Data collection: Clients receive access to our calculation tools for carbon footprint and sequestration calculations and provide the required data that is checked remotely. The tool calculates the draft footprint.
Step 2: Field evaluation: Field verification of the activity data by our auditors, which is provided in Step 1.
Step 3: Carbon claims approval: Our carbon experts check the final carbon footprint figures. Once accepted, you will be issued a third-party certificate with approval of the claims you can use to report your climate impacts.

The Carbon Footprint Certification Standard has been designed to align with leading product carbon footprint standards and methods, including GHG Protocol standards, PAS standards, and ISO 14067:2018 requirements. The standard aims to ensure accurate quantification and reporting of GHG emissions. We are also monitoring the regulatory landscape to ensure the programme can support your alignment with regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and related expectations for third-party verification.
