For 30 years, we have developed sustainable solutions for land management-related supply chains in 100+ countries, focusing on forestry, agriculture and travel. Collaborating with key landscapes, supply chains and markets, we target positive change for a healthier environment, climate and sustainable livelihoods.
While engaging with diverse commodities, our focus remains on areas where we can maximise impact in promoting sustainable practices.

2023
- An organisation with 300+ full-time staff and an extensive network of local consultants.
- Relaunched the new & improved Sourcing Hub.
2020
- Rebranded as 'Preferred by Nature' and unveiled the Preferred by Nature Certification (Sustainability Framework) after a decade of development.
- Became the world’s first Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) verification body to provide sustainable rice audits.
2018
Acquired the certification unit of the Rainforest Alliance and since then, operating in 100+ countries across all continents, with a range of commodities and sectors.
2017
- Launched the Sourcing Hub, offering comprehensive legality risk assessments for timber, soy, palm oil, and cattle.
- Started to work with palm oil.
2015
- Broadened the project scope to other commodities including soy, cattle and palm oil. Commenced work with biomass, becoming the world’s first Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) approved certification body.
- 25 ongoing projects.
2014
- Established our first legal entity in Asia.
- Obtained our own Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditation.
2013
- Recognised as the Monitoring Organisation for the EU Timber Regulation.
- Began working with the agriculture sector as well providing services on carbon footprint management.
2009
Expanded activities into other Western European countries.
2007
Launched our training programme and co-developed the Global Forest Registry for responsible timber sourcing.
2004
Our project led to the development of 100+ protected areas in Europe.
1999
Began providing certification services, in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance.
1998
Expanded operations into the eastern European region.
1995
Initiated the first project on sustainable forest management.
1994
The non-profit, mission-driven organisation was founded in Aarhus, Denmark. Back then, it was ‘NEPCon’.
