PepsiCo and Tetra Pak launch FSC-labelled juice cartons in Russia
Over 200 million FSC-labelled cartons of the J7 juice brand will reach the Russian marketplace this year.
This is the result of a move by the multinational corporation PepsiCo to step up its efforts to ensure a responsible origin of its packaging materials.
The company has teamed up with Tetra Pak, the global leader within liquid food and beverage packaging, for the launch.
Initially, seven flavours of the J7 juice will be available in FSC certified Tetra Pak packages, however PepsiCo aims to expand the FSC-labelling to cover the full range of its J7 brand.
“The FSC labelling of the packages empowers PepsiCo to develop its business and consumer relations in a more active and responsible way, to meet the current trends of the global and local markets”, says Vice President of Communications for Eastern Europe & Central Asia Yulia Belova, Tetra Pak Russia.
Tetra Pak expands its commitment
The J7 packages are the first FSC-labelled cartons produced by Tetra Pak for the Russian market. In September 2011, Tetra Pak’s Moscow factory and office received FSC Chain of Custody certification, enabling the company to suggest placing the FSC logo on their customers’ packages.
Tetra Pak is in the process of expanding its multi-site certification to cover all of its factories and offices to offer FSC certified packages to its customers worldwide. With over 65 sites located around the world already included in its certificate, the company is well under way to achieving this goal.
“We appreciate that Tetra Pak, being one of the world’s leading consumers of carton, provides active support to the objectives of the Forest Stewardship Council and contributes greatly to their promotion. We are going to continue our cooperation and together inform Russian foods manufacturers and consumers about the importance of being responsible about the choice of raw material sources and preserving Russia’s forest resources,” says Andrey Ptichnikov, Director of FSC regional office, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Tetra Pak holds an FSC Chain of Custody multi-site certificate covering over 65 sites around the world (FSC-C014047). The certificate is issued by the Rainforest Alliance, based on auditing services delivered by NEPCon and the Rainforest Alliance.
