By Preferred by Nature

Borg P/F, a leading distributor of building materials in the Faroe Islands, has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first organisation on the islands that is certified against two well-recognised international forestry standards.

Borg P/F, a leading distributor of building materials in the Faroe Islands, has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first organisation on the islands that is certified against two well-recognised international forestry standards.

The certification was granted by Preferred by Nature after positive results from the Chain of Custody audit. These FSCTM (Forest Stewardship CouncilTM) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) Chain of Custody (CoC) certificates highlight Borg P/F's unwavering commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable practices in the distribution of timber building materials.

This certification not only sets them apart as a trailblazer in the industry but also reflects the escalating demand for sustainable wood construction materials.

Borg P/F is also part of the network of XL-Byg - a prominent Danish chain of building material stores. This chain has recently taken a decisive step towards sustainability.

XL-Byg announced that all their stores, regardless of ownership, will be required to obtain FSC and PEFC certifications by the end of 2023. This move by XL-Byg reflects the understanding of the evolving needs of the construction industry, particularly in light of the growing influence of DGNB projects.

Borg P/F plays a crucial role in driving sustainability in the construction industry in the Faroe Islands. With ownership of three XL-Byg stores in the region, Borg P/F aims to get their products meet the stringent requirements for responsible sourcing and sustainable approaches.

The journey towards sustainability has long been at the core of Borg P/F's operations. The company consistently implements proactive measures to integrate sustainable methodologies throughout their supply chain.

"We are proud to be the first FSC CoC and PEFC CoC-certified client on the Faroe Islands," stated Rodmundur Nielsen, Borg P/F Chief Executive Officer.

"This achievement reinforces our dedication to sustainability and responsible business practices. We firmly believe that by promoting environmentally-friendly solutions, we can contribute to a more sustainable wood construction industry and create a positive impact on our surroundings,” added Rodmundur.

By optimising resource utilisation, reducing waste generation and prioritising materials from certified and well-managed sources, Borg P/F has demonstrated their commitment to responsible business conduct and support to sustainable forestry practices.

Preferred by Nature, the organisation responsible for conducting the rigorous FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody audit, commended Borg P/F for their unwavering dedication to sustainable principles.

"We are delighted to issue the FSC and PEFC certification to Borg P/F," said Kent Skovgaard, Europe Supply Chain Assurance Director at Preferred by Nature.

"Their commitment to responsible sourcing and environmentally conscious operations sets a commendable example for the industry, inspiring others to follow suit,” Kent added.

Through their responsible practices and collaborations, they aim to inspire others and contribute to a more sustainable construction sector.
