FSC and Controlled Wood certification is the future among the world’s wood industries, according to Taickij Andrej Michajlovich, Director of Borisov DOK JSC in Belarus.
The company recently received its own combined FSC Chain of Custody and Controlled wood certificate. “We aim to be a market leader providing our clients with the best options for responsible product sourcing. Our company already holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 certification. We expect that our FSC/CW certificate will open new doors for us on the market”, explains Michajlovich.
Employing more than 750 people and with an annual turnover close to 1.5 million EUR, Borisov DOK is one of the largest wood industries in Belarus. Its products are exported to more than 30 countries including EU, China and countries in the Middle East.
Borisov DOK JSC manufactures a wide range of products including sawn timber, profile molded board, fiberboard, glued beams for construction, and wood-based fuel pellets. The company's sawmill produces a sawn wood volume of almost 150,000 m3 per year, and the company produces MDF products with a volume of about 20 million m3 per year.
Chain of custody certification takes off in Belarus
With the certification of Borisov DOK, the Belarussian wood industry will be utilizing the FSC-certified wood available on the domestic market much more efficiently. Belaus is currently home to more than 2 million hectares of FSC-certified state forest.
Borisov DOK JSC is the third company in Belarus to obtain a combined FSC Chain of custody and Controlled Wood (COC/CW) certificate. The choice to include controlled wood in the certification scope was made because the company sources timber from FSC-certified as well as non FSC-certified forests from the entire country.
The certificate was issued by the Rainforest Alliance based on evaluations performed by NEPCon. The certification codes of Borisov DOK JSC are: SW-COC-003280 and SW-CW-003280.
