UK timber industry joins the Due Diligence debate

By Preferred by Nature

In a joint statement, the UK’s Timber Trade Federation, Confederation of Forest Industries, Wood Panels Industries Federation and British Woodworking Federation call on the EU to adopt "a workable, but strong mechanism to tackle illegal logging".

Since last year, the discussion has been waving back and forth between the EU Council of Ministers and the EU Parliament. The process is still ongoing, and the next step will be a plenary vote in July.

Now voices with a strong background in the wood industry sector are letting themselves heard. The UK timber trade, known for its strong focus on certification, is asking that the final Due Diligence regulation respect and recognize the assurance which is already provided by existing timber certification schemes such as FSC and PEFC.
