Marimuthuram Mahendran
Marimuthuram Mahendran is responsible for FSC Certification and verification services and project activities in the South Indian Region.
Marimuthuram began his career working for the USAID Forest PLUS program as a Research Associate. In this role, he travelled extensively in India, having project landscapes in Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, to implement monitoring, evaluation and remote sensing strategies to estimate forest carbon through estimating the forest biomass. He had the opportunity to work closely with the Government, Industry and Non-Governmental Organizations.
He studied Tropical and International Forestry at the University of Goettingen, Germany. He also has an additional qualification in Agricultural Biotechnology.
Marimuthuram joined Preferred by Nature in 2020.
"In the current scenario of depleting forest resources, I think the only way of sustainably managing these resources is by making the industries responsible. So, I believe that Forestry certification schemes like FSC and PEFC have an important role to play in ensuring the protection of these limited resources for the generations to come, by preventing over-exploitation and ensuring sustainable management of forest resource. I enjoy working with companies to ensure sustainability in their value chains and provide them advice to understand the compliance to the certification standards."
