Speakers
José Jordi Brotons Martínez - Ministerio de Agricultura y Pesca, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente
José Brotons is Head of Service for the application of the EUTR of the Rural Development and Forestry Policy DG of MAPAMA. "While it is true that the implementation of the EUTR legislation has had a gradual integration in the Spanish timber sector, the reality is that the national legislation has provided us with a very solid structure for the elimination of illegal timber trade in Spain. The updated National Control Plan, as well as the implementation of the State Information System of the Timber Trade, provides us with tools different from the rest of the European Union. The job of the administration is to assist in the implementation, and knowledge of the obligations required. To help achieve this, initiatives such as those of NEPCon are considered as a fundamental part and therefore always very much welcomed". |

This workshop was conducted as part of the joint project ‘Supporting Legal Timber Trade’ aimed at supporting timber-related companies in Europe with knowledge, tools and training in the requirements of the EU Timber Regulation. Knowing your timber’s origin is not only good for the forests, but good for business. The joint project was funded by the EU LIFE programme and UK aid from the UK government.
