SIG chain of custody certified worldwide

By al@nepcon.org

SIG's plants in China, Thailand and Saudi Arabia have achieved FSC chain of custody certification.

This follows the successful certification of SIG's European production plants in mid-2009.

SIG Combibloc's multi-site certificate now covers facilities and sales organizations in 10 countries around the world. With the expanded certificate in place, all of SIG's production facilities worldwide are now able to supply FSC certified carton. SIG is following a strict policy ensuring that it now exclusively sources wood fibers from responsibly managed forests and controlled sources.

SIG Combibloc requires all its suppliers of unprocessed cardboard to operate production facilities that are certified according to the FSC CoC standard, in order to cover the value-added chain from forest to carton.

The journey of SIG towards responsible sourcing of wood fibers has been fast and impressive. SIG obtained its first FSC chain of custody certificate only last year. Only a few months later, SIG launched FSC-labeled fruit juice and ice tea cartons in all of Lidl's German stores. joined the WWF Global Forest Trade Network (GFTN), a further token of SIG's commitment to responsible forestry.

Rodrigo Steinvorth, Head of Production and Supply Chain at SIG Combibloc in China said: “We are proud to support the expansion of exemplary forest management through the FSC Chain of Custody certification of our global production sites, thereby actively helping to ensure that wood as a renewable resource can continue to be used not only in an environmentally friendly way, but also well into the future”.

The FSC multi-site certificate held by SIG Combibloc (SW-COC-004130) is issued by the Rainforest Alliance.
