By Katarzyna Nagrodzka

Preferred by Nature has achieved official recognition as a certification body for the GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) V6 Standard. This significant milestone showcases our continued commitment to promoting responsible farming practices and supporting farmers worldwide.

Under the careful supervision of the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS), Preferred by Nature successfully underwent a rigorous assessment process, solidifying their position as a trusted certification partner. Our long-standing commitment to sustainable agriculture has been duly recognised and acknowledged through this prestigious accreditation.

A more comprehensive certification standard

The introduction of the GLOBALG.A.P. IFA V6 certification marks a significant step towards a more comprehensive and holistic approach to farm assurance. This updated version of the certification standard goes beyond ensuring food safety and delves into critical aspects such as environmental sustainability, biodiversity, workers' well-being, production processes and traceability. By adopting the IFA V6 certification, companies can enhance their farm management practices, improve operational efficiency and effectively align with market requirements.

Javiera Acevedo, Preferred by Nature Agriculture Specialist, emphasised the organisation's dedication to promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

"The GLOBALG.A.P. IFA V6 certification is a crucial milestone in our commitment to supporting farmers and producers worldwide," said Javiera.

Leveraging our extensive experience and expertise in various certification schemes, Preferred by Nature remains at the forefront of driving sustainable agricultural practices and provides steadfast support to farmers globally in their quest for responsible and environmentally conscious farming methods.

Preferred by Nature’s engagement with the agriculture sector extends beyond the GLOBALG.A.P. certification. We have also worked with other internationally recognised standards, including Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture, Union for Ethical BioTrade, Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil, Sustainable Rice Platform and Bonsucro. Through these, we have certified agricultural farms spanning over 2 million hectares in more than 70 countries.

Various certification options for producers and producer groups

GLOBALG.A.P. certification offers a wide range of options tailored to meet the diverse needs of farms of all sizes, including smallholders. The certification accommodates different production systems, such as covered and non-covered production and hydroponics. It provides access to additional GLOBALG.A.P. add-ons and supply chain solutions, offering comprehensive support to both producers and buyers.

The IFA V6 certification promotes increased efficiency and improved management of farm operations. It offers clarity on market requirements and serves as a practical guide for on-farm activities. Producers can showcase their responsible farming practices, while buyers can easily identify products that meet their specific requirements.

The certification includes a farm-level continuous improvement plan, empowering producers to analyse and enhance their operations. It incorporates stringent sustainability criteria, addressing biodiversity, water management, plastics usage, pest management and more.

Certification options are available for both individual producers and producer groups, ensuring flexibility and inclusivity. The certification process involves annual audits conducted by accredited and independent third-party certification bodies, resulting in a certificate valid for one year.
