Networks that network

By al@nepcon.org

FSC is not the only organisation in the world where multi-stakeholder groups are trying to improve the wellbeing of nature and local communities.

Theme 4 of the Forest Conference focused on how to establish synergy between existing networks and labelling initiatives having at least partially overlapping goals Two key organisations in this context are Global Action Network and the ISEAL Alliance.

Global Action Network

Global Action Network (GAN) brings together multi-stakeholder networks such as FSC, Transparency International and Access Initiative to enhance their global impact. Facilitating interactions among large networking organisations can enable efficient use of the overall resources.

ISEAL Alliance

The ISEAL Alliance is an association for leading standard setting bodies such as FSC, the Rainforest Alliance, Marine Aquarium Council and others. The ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards describes a common best practice. With a growing number verification schemes and labels potentially creating confusion among consumers, this is important.
