Minor components - new derogation procedures
FSC-certified companies that are using minor components can apply for a derogation to use non-certified components, when these are not available as certified and when they make up less than 5% of the total product.
New procedures allows more effective processing of these applications.
Faster handling of applications
Certification bodies can now approve applications directly instead of reviewing and then forwarding them to FSC-International. The removal of this extra link allows the approval process to run faster and more smoothly.
Companies in need of a derogation for using minor non-certified components should be aware that they need to include a comprehensive market analysis demonstrating that the minor components are not available as FSC-certified or as FSC Controlled Wood.
Material types with generic derogation
FSC has temporarily granted general derogation for certain materials. The materials are various types of laminates (HPDL, HPL, LPL, CPL and compact laminates) as well as other overlay papers impregnated and/or coated with thermosetting resins.
These derogations apply globally and are valid until 31st of December 2010. Companies must still submit a derogation application for this type of material, however a market analysis is not requested as long as the generic derogation applies.
