Have your say on open consultations on the Rainforest Alliance standards for Farm and Chain of Custody
The Rainforest Alliance is now conducting open consultations on the Rainforest Alliance for Farm and Chain of Custody standards until 31 August 2019 and invites all stakeholders to provide feedback by completing a survey.
Second consultation for the 2020 Sustainable Agriculture Standard
To develop and improve the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard, the Rainforest Alliance started a public consultation survey last year. The new Sustainable Agriculture Standard is aimed at maximising positive social, environmental, and economic impact, offering agricultural producers an improved framework to enhance their livelihoods whilst protecting the environment they work and live.
In the first round of consultation, all stakeholders provided input between December 2018 and February 2019. Based on the feedback gathered, changes and revision have been made to the Standard.
All changes are reflected in these drafts:
- Sustainable Agriculture Standard for Smallholders
- Sustainable Agriculture Standard for Medium and Large farms
A summary of key changes is also available. Other supporting documents and annexes are available on the Rainforest Alliance website.
All stakeholders are urged to read the drafts above before participating in the second round of survey on the 2020 Sustainable Agriculture Standard by 31 August 2019.
The survey in this second round of consultation is shorter, to convenient stakeholders in providing insights and suggestions. Besides the public consultation survey, the Rainforest Alliance will also host and facilitate workshops to gather input from all stakeholders and representatives. However, dates have yet to be announced. Further details will be published on the Rainforest Alliance website.
This standard and survey will be translated into Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese and Vietnamese. It will be launched in the coming weeks.
First consultation on the 2020 Chain of Custody Standard
The Rainforest Alliance is also launching an open consultation on the Chain of Custody Standard. The new Standard contributes to more sustainable supply chains, including socially and environmentally responsible processing. This Standard applies to supply chain actors such as food processors or traders in the chain of custody.
All stakeholders are encouraged to review the 2020 Chain of Custody Standard before participating in the survey. This survey on the 2020 Chain of Custody Standard will be open until 31 August 2019.
The Rainforest Alliance is seeking input on the following new topics – context-specific risk assessment and a mandatory premium for farmers.
The standard and the survey will be translated into Spanish, French, Portuguese and German. It will be launched in the coming weeks.
Publication and launch
The 2020 Sustainable Agriculture Standard and Chain of Custody are expected to be published in January 2020.
The 2020 Sustainable Agriculture Standard will be launched in early 2021 and it will be made mandatory for producers whereby all producer audits will be against the new standard from then onwards.
