FSC survey on smallholder demands
FSC has launched a new survey in order to better understand demands for European FSC-certified wood, with a particular focus on supplies from smallholders.
The topic is crucial for increasing supplies of FSC certified raw material from Europe, as well as for securing maximum impact of FSC certification in Europe. About 16 million private forest owners manage roughly half of the European timber resources.
Some companies such as Södra, Stora Enso, and Sveaskog are already supporting smallholder certification in Europe in different ways. These include paying price premiums for certified wood, offering group schemes for smallholders, and supporting projects on smallholder certification.
Join the survey
Although FSC has just launched another, global market survey, the issue of raw material supply is important to many companies sourcing from Europe, and we hope that these will take the time to fill in this additional survey.
The short 10-point questionnaire seeks to reveal if companies have preference for European wood, for certain European tree species or for sourcing from specific countries. Also, the survey explores whether some companies have policies in place specifically for sourcing from European smallholders. The survey closes on the 23rd September.
