First forest management standard for Kyrgyz Republic
FSC and NEPCon released the Interim National Standard of Kyrgyz Republic. This standard is the first of its kind not only for Kyrgyzstan but also for the whole region covering Caucasus, Central Asia, Moldova and Mongolia.
The standard covers natural forests and plantations, non-timber forest products, and ecosystem services. This standard was also applied for the first time to the walnut fruit zone of the pilot leshozes of Jalal-Abad Oblast in Autumn 2017 for certification of non-timber forest products.
The interim standard is based on the FSC Principles and Criteria (FSC-STD-01-001 V5-2 EN) and the International Generic Indicators (FSC-STD-60-004 V1-0 EN). It also takes into account the NEPCon Generic Standards for Assessing Forest Management.
FSC and NEPCon are working together on a regional standard for the countries of the Caucasus, Central Asia, Moldova and Mongolia. This standard for Kyrgyzstan therefore will be valid until 7 August 2018 when the new regional standard is launched.
You can download the standard from the FSC website or on our webpage for Regional and National Forest Management standards.
