The objective of this standard is to allow organisations to provide accurate and verifiable information that forest and tree based products are sourced from PEFC certified sustainably managed forests, recycled material and PEFC controlled sources.
The PEFC trademarks provide information relating to the origin of forest based products in sustainably managed forest and other non-controversial sources. Trademarks information drives purchasers and potential purchasers to choose products based on environmental, as well as other considerations.
(ST 2002:2013 Chain of Custody of Forest-based Products - Requirements)
The latest version of the PEFC Chain of Custody Standard, PEFC ST 2002:2013, became mandatory to follow from 24 February 2014. As from this date, all Preferred by Nature audits are conducted against this Standard.
Note: PEFC has published guidance providing important interpretation of the new Standard. Preferred by Nature is conducting our PEFC CoC audits against this guidance.
The client update below includes key points from the guidance. The first client update on the draft guidance is helpful if you need to ensure that you understand key changes compared to the old standard.
