On April 19 and May 16 2023, the EU Parliament and the EU Council (respectively) adopted the final texts for a new law to prevent companies from placing commodities linked to deforestation and forest degradation on the EU market (The EU Deforestation Regulation – EUDR). On Friday 9th of June the regulation was published in the Official Journal of the EU, which it will enter into force on 29 June 2023 and will become applicable to most companies on 30 December 2024.There will be increased requirements of transparency across supply chain actors, as well as to ensure products sourced are legally harvested and produced, and deforestation free.
What will this mean when sourcing from Brazil?
Preferred by Nature and Imaflora will host a joint webinar to present the latest insight on the EUDR, and the results of the updated Timber Legality Risk Assessment for Brazil. The Timber Legality Risk Assessment does not only identify risks when sourcing timber from Brazil, but also suggest how these risks can be addressed. Addressing these risks is relevant today under the European Timber Regulation (EUTR), as well as under the upcoming EUDR.
The webinar is set to take place on June 22nd, 2023, 14.00pm to 15.30pm CEST via Zoom.
