Mulumba provides tailored sustainability advisory services to a wide range of clients in sectors such as timber, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, textiles, soy, etc. He supports businesses in achieving their sustainability goals and complying with regulatory requirements. His role includes developing and aligning policies, performing benchmarking and gap analysis, engaging with supply chains, and crafting due diligence procedural tools. All these activities are aimed at ensuring adherence to important regulations like the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the UK Timber Regulations (UKTR) and meeting broad sustainability criteria.
I am driven to work with Preferred by Nature because of my deep commitment to leveraging the role of nature and biodiversity in addressing societal challenges. In my role, I have the unique opportunity to support businesses in implementing sustainable practices that can have a widespread, positive impact, especially in the most vulnerable communities. Through this work, I aim to contribute to a more resilient and equitable world where both people and the planet thrive.
Mulumba has a strong academic background and a proven track record in forestry, biodiversity policy, and environmental sustainability. He has previously worked as the International Forestry Advisor at Forest Research, providing strategic support to the UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) on policy areas including sustainable forest management, climate change and biodiversity. Mulumba also worked at CDP, a non-profit that operates a global disclosure system for environmental impacts where he supported companies dealing in forest risk commodities to remove deforestation and biodiversity loss from their supply chains.
Earlier in his career, Mulumba worked as a Biodiversity Specialist at a consultancy company, predominantly working in East Africa. He led a team of experts conducting Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and physical planning projects.
Mulumba holds a BSc in Conservation Biology and an MSc in Environment and Natural Resources from Makerere University, an MSc in Life Sciences with a focus on Agricultural and Forest Sciences from Bern University of Applied Sciences, and an MSc in Tropical Forestry from Bangor University. He is completing a PhD in Geography and Planning at the University of Liverpool.
